("Hoolaha Papa", Nupepa Kuokoa, November 26, 1887)
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, regarding that certain parcel of land situated at Alaakua, Kaupo, island of Maui, Hawaiian islands, being the joint land of J. W. KAWAAKOA (male) and KUNIHI (male), consisting of 42 acres, more or less, Royal Patent Grant 2800. J. W. Kawaakoa has conveyed his interest to J. W. Kawaakoa Jr., I being the Kawaakoa Jr. with an interest in the abovementioned land.
Therefore, I am warning the wealthy people of the land from where the sun rises at Kumukahi to where it sets at Lehua, if the children of Kunihi come to you for a mortgage, do not provide your signature. This is because the interest of each was not divided but joined together until the time that they both died. J. W. Kawaakoa Sr. conveyed his interest to J. W. Kawaakoa Jr. in perpetuity. I hereby publicly declare that the children of Kunihi do not have financial authority. Like the power to mortgage, conveyance or lease of the land requires mutual agreement.
J. W. KAWAAKOA.
