About KaupoMaui.com
Kaupo, an area of southeast Maui, is a rugged land with a deep history. Kaupo’s remote location and lack of access kept Hawaiian culture intact there longer than in many other parts of Hawaii. Even now, the landscape looks much like it did hundreds of years ago.
This website is dedicated to the land and history of Kaupo. The site contains six sections:
- Photos displays images of the area
- Research provides longer-form articles studying various topics of Kaupo history
- Newspapers contains translated versions of articles from historic Hawaiian-language newspapers
- Obituaries features translated obituaries of Kaupo residents gathered from historic Hawaiian newspapers
- Places presents the names and history of geographic and manmade features
- About gives background about the site and its creator
