Nuu famine

Naaieono of Kula, Maui reports of a great famine at Nuu, Kaupo, and of panini cactus fruit being cooked in kettles as a drink to allay the intense hunger that has caused sunken eyes.

Word has come from W. A. Kala of Nuu, Kaupo, Maui, about heat causing a famine there, but which has already been explained by Mr. Naaieono. We offer our thanks to you for sending this to our precious1.

Mai a Naaieono mai o Kula, Maui e hoike mai ana i ka nui o ka wi ma Nuu i Kaupo, a o ka hua panini i hoomoa ia iloko o na ipuhao, oia iho la ka mea e kamau ai i ka houpo lewalewa, a hala iki ae la ka maka poniuniu.


Ua loaa mai nei no kau e ka makamaka W A Kala o Nuu, Kaupo, Maui no ka hahana o ka wi a ka ai malaila aka ua pau e mai hoi i ka hoaiaiia e Mr. Naaieono. Ke haawi aku nei nae makou i ka mahalo ia oe, no kou hoouna ana mai no ko kakou Hiwahiwa.
