Beats Roosevelt

Posted on by Kawika Gregoire

(Evening Bulletin, January 18, 1909)

WAILUKU, Maui, Jan. 15.—Antone V. Marciel of Kaupo, aged 66,1 gallantly rode into Wailuku from Kaupo via Kahikinui, last Thursday afternoon, and although he left his home in the morning and more than three-fourths of the 45 miles were over rugged lava rocks, the veteran rancher from Kaupo was as active as a young man of forty, and did not feel much fatigue after his trip. The President2 recently used up four horses while trying to show army officers that it was not much of a feat to ride 100 miles on horseback, but the President may take a back seat when in company with Kaupo’s rough rider.
