The Death of Mr. J. Naloloa.
("Ka Make o Mr. J. Naloloa", Ka Nupepa Kuokoa, September 30, 1865)
DEAR EDITOR; GREETINGS:—We are filled with an empty heart by the death of our beloved colleague Joseph Naloloa at Lahaina on the 18th of this month.
Mr. Naloloa spent many years in Lahaina as a teacher. He also served in that capacity at Waikapu at the request of schoolmaster Alexander. He became an elder in the church of Wailuku. Later, he studied at the clergy school there. In 1864, the Presbytery of Maui and Molokai permitted Naloloa to preach the word of God. When the Rev. H. Manase1 departed the Church of Kaupo for the Church of Honuaula, Mr. Nololoa moved to the Church of Kaupo in June 1864 to serve as pastor.
He did not stay there long, and it became clear that he was worthy of the good work he had undertaken, his love, patience, piety, meekness, skill in matters related to God, and wisdom in the ways of the world. He had the true nature of a fisherman catching fish. The people there are surely mournful and saddened by his passing. The head pastor of the church will take care of them and provide them with another who is capable of preaching the gospel.
In the first few days of this year, our friend became weak, and the illness increased in him from there. In July, he returned from Kaupo seeking treatment. However, nothing worked, and his body was taken captive by the great enemy of all mortals. He suffered greatly in his final days, but his spirit was not defeated. He expressed his steadfast faith in Jesus, and the joy of his soul in being saved.
We have no doubt that he will return with much love from the patient servants of the Lord, and will give them the most beautiful crowns. His burden and troubles are gone; he has been saved to reside with Jesus. Let us, our fellow workers, be ever patient as well until we are called to go to that place. He will be returned that to place of great love by the patient servants of the Lord and will be given a beautiful royal lei by them
S. E. BISHOP.
