Joel Kamakahiki Has Passed Away

("Ua Hala O Joel Kamakahiki", Nupepa Kuokoa, November 1, 1907)

Dear Nupepa Kuokoa, greetings—Please provide space in a corner of your paper to inform the numerous friends of the deceased about information related to him, to wit:

Joel Kamakahiki was born from the loins of Mr. and Mrs. Kalahoouka at Kaupo, Maui in 1861, and he took his last breath of this life on October 23 here in Honolulu.

Therefore, he spent 46 years breathing the air of this world before moving on to the path that all must take. He was a member of the Hawaiian Relief and Savings Society, which took care of the arrangements for his body.

For his funeral procession, the women’s branch and the men’s branch of the society dressed their members in finery. I would like to offer my boundless gratitude for the assistance of the members. You all have shown your true brotherly love. May God sustain your good deeds, and in this way shall the name of the Hawaiian Relief and Savings Society endure. Amen.

CHAS.1 KAHUAKAILOA.
