Malie Kaaiwaiu Has Passed Away

("Malie Kaaiwaiu ua Hala", Nupepa Kuokoa, November 4, 1910, and Kuokoa Home Rula, November 4, 1910)

Mr. Editor of the Nupepa Kuokoa, greetings: At 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, the 2nd of this month, our beloved mother, Mrs. Malie Kaaiwaiu, gently glided away1 from the residence of her foster grandchild Mr. Ulu Robertson at Kulaokahua.

Our mother was born at Kaupo, Maui on August 17, 1812. Thus, our dear mom spent over 98 years panting under the hardships of this life until the cold remains of our beloved mother were borne to Maemae Cemetery.

Therefore, as has been revealed in the Good Book, dust shall return to dust, for of dust are you made. 2

With these thoughts above, we would like to send our regards to the nimble-handed youths of your printing press.3

We being the children who have lost our mother.

C. B. MANESE KAHINALUA
MISS LUCY KAHINALUA
