Feature:Cave
Comments:Cave mentioned by historian Moses Manu in a portion of the legend of Laukaieie published Nov. 16, 1894, in Nupepa Ka Oiaio: "A ua komo hou aku oia ma ia lua a hoea mauka loa o ke kuahiwi, o Alewa ka inoa o keia lua, ua kanuia e ka poe hele kuahiwi i ka ke Neleau a puni i ole e haule a poino ka poe kalai waa i ka wa kahiko, a ke ulu nei ke Neleau a hiki i keia manawa." (He [Makanikeoe] went into this cave again and arrived high in the mountains. Alewa is the name of this cave. People traveling to the mountains had planted neleau trees all around so that the canoe carvers of old did not fall and get hurt. The neleau grows here to this day.)
