Comments: | Place described by archaeologist Winslow Walker as the location of a heiau in his field notes from a survey of Kaupo in 1929: "Heiau at Halaulani, Kaumahalua, Kaupo. 50 yds mauka to road in little gulch - faces the sea - walled enclosure A is about 3' above B which has a pavement of stone and pebbles and a firepit, charcoal and ashes found in dirt. C is unpaved entrance terrace - total length 80', greatest width 66', walls 3' high 4' thick." Also mentioned in an obituary in Ka Nupepa Kuokoa in December 1923: "Ua hanauia ka maua lei aloha ma Halaulani, Kaupo, Maui, i ka la 28 o Maraki 1907." (Our dear child was born at Halaulani, Kaupo, Maui on March 28, 1907.) |
