Kahauwiki

Feature:Shore area
Comments:Alternate name for the Waiu area described by archaeologist Winslow Walker following a survey of Kaupo in 1929: "Puumaneoneo House Sites. At Kahauwiki below the cliff of Puu Maneoneo, a group of house sites, canoe-sheds, and burial platforms extends for some distance out onto the rocky point. Mrs. J. V. Marciel [Josephine Kealoha Marciel] remembers when there were at least 100 people living there, but now there are none. there is a spring of good water which comes out under the cliff near the shore and gives its name to the region." Marciel confirmed this place name in an interview with historian Mary Kawena Pukui in May 1960.
