Kalou

Feature:Shore area
Comments:Shoreline area at Nuu Bay where Nuu Landing is located.

Historian Moses Manu mentioned Kalou in the legend “He Moolelo Kaao no ke Kaua nui Weliweli mawaena o Pelekeahialoa a me Wakakeakaikawai”, published in the newspaper Ka Loea Kalaiaina on Sept. 9, 1899: "Kalou was the place where the line of the ship, Claudine, was attached and where the wharf of Nuu is now located. The late Queen Kapiolani owned that land." (as collected in the book "Sites of Maui").

Kalou is mentioned in an obituary published in the newspaper Ka Nupepa Kuokoa in February 1862: "Kuu keikiki o ka wai o Muliwai. O ka piha kanaka nui o Kalou." (My child of the water of Muliwai. Of the crowds at Kalou.)
