| Comments: | Hill in Kaupo Gap close to Kaupo Ranch headquarters. Described by Bishop Museum researcher Thomas Maunupau in an account of a trip to Kaupo Gap in May 1922: "I ko makou hiki ana mai iluna o kekahi wahi puu, ua olelo mai la ko makou kamaaina o Kapihaa (piha kikoola) ka inoa o ia wahi." (When we arrived atop a small hill, our host said the name of the place was Kapihaa [full of sarcasm]). Mentioned in an obituary in 1911: "Ua hanau a oia ma Kapihaa, Kaupo, Maui, mai ka puhaka mai o Naai (k) a me Kanealani (w). " (She [Sarah Hana Kapihe] was born at Kapihaa, Kaupo, Maui from the loins of her father Naai and her mother Kanealani.) Mentioned in an obituary in 1920: "Ua hanauia mai kuu wahine aloha mai ka puhaka mai o kona mama, Mrs. Mahupeleualani me Mr. Kuaana, ma Kapihaa, Kaupo, Maui, i Feb. 18, 1862. " (My beloved wife [Kaolanilalalii Kalana] was born from the loins of her mother, Mrs. Mahupeleualani, and Mr. Kuaana at Kapihaa, Kaupo, Maui on Feb. 18, 1862.) |
