| Comments: | Place in Kaupo Gap. Identified on an 1883 map of Nuu. Described by Bishop Museum researcher Thomas Maunupau in his account of a trip to Kaupo Gap in May 1922: "O ia hele malie mai no ia o makou ahiki i kahi o ka pali mania kiekie launaole, e uli paa ia ana e ka noe ame ka uhiwai me na wailele lehulehu he nui i hiolo mai ana. O Kawaanaau ka inoa o keia wahi." (We went along slowly until we arrived at a cliff of dizzying height covered in mist and fog, with numerous waterfalls tumbling down. The name of this place is Kawaanaau.) |
