Kawai a Lono

Comments:Spring location in upper Manawainui Valley where a pipeline was laid in 1910 to provide water for Kaupo residents.

Site name provided in Kuokoa Home Rula, June 3, 1910: "Ua hoomoeia he paipu mai ka pali mai, kahi kapaia “Kawai a Lono” a hoea i ke ahua kiekiena ma Nuu o kahawai o Mokulau." (A pipe has been laid from the cliff at the place called “Kawai a Lono” reaching to the headland at Nuu at the stream at Mokulau.)

Approximate location comes from Maui News, May 21, 1910: "The County Engineer’s department recently laid a pipe line for bringing pure water from the Manawainui springs down to the settlement at Kaupo."
