Manawainui

Feature:Ahupuaa, stream, valley
Comments:Identified as an ahupuaa on the circa-1880s Hawaiian Government Survey map of Kaupo. The largest valley in Kaupo.

Manawainui is mentioned in an obituary in Ka Hoku o ka Pakipika in October 1862: "Kuu kaikuaana mai ka malu kukui o Manawainui e. … mai ka wai luu poo o Manawainui la." (My sister of the shady kukui trees of Manawainui. … of the water that dives from Manawainui.)

Thank you very much for in-depth research of my ancestral homeland. I am researching my Hawaiian Ancestry and this is where I had been led.

    Me ka 'oia'i'o,
