Feature: | Heiau, spring |
Comments: | Heiau in the Nuu area described in the Hawaiian Ethnological Notes collection at the Bishop Museum: "Nuu is the ahupuaa. Pili-o-Kane was the heiau where human sacrifices were offered." Piliokane is mentioned as a spring in the Nuu area in an article in Ka Leo o ka Lahui published July 6, 1891: "Aohe wai e loaa koke iho, a koe no ka punawai a kou mea kakau nei, oia o Piliokane, ka wai hu’i, wai ono a ka lehua, wai hou i ka ili o ka ipo ahi." (The only spring left is Piliokane, that of your correspondent, with its cold, delicious water like lehua flowers, rejuvenating water like the skin of an ardent lover.) |
