Popoiwi

(Pōpōiwi)

Feature:Ahupuaa, heiau, village
Comments:Identified as an ahupuaa on the the circa-1880s Hawaiian Government Survey map of Kaupo.

The largest heiau in Kaupo is located in the ahupuaa and is often called Popoiwi Heiau. However, the true name of the heiau is Keakalauae.

Described as a village in Land Commission Award 542, (1862): "Pahale ma kulanakauhale o Popoiwi." (House lot in the village of Popoiwi.)
