Comments: | Place near Punahoa Spring mentioned by historian Moses Manu in a portion of the legend of Laukaieie published Nov. 16, 1894, in Nupepa Ka Oiaio: "A he nui a lehulehu wale na mana wai liilii ma keia aina o Kaupo, a mai loko mai o ke kumu o keia wai, ka wai e hu ala ma ka Paala ma ke kahakai o Punahoa." (There are many small streams in this area of Kaupo [Waikaia, in Manawainui Valley], and this is the source of the water that emerges at Paala at the shore of Punahoa.) According to Kaupo native Daniel Kawaiaea, Paala is located between Mokulau and the Manawainui river mouth. |
