Comments: | Location of a heiau described by archaeologist Winslow Walker in his field notes from a survey of Kaupo in 1929: "Heiau at Waihi, Kukohia, Kaupo — alt. over 1200', 300 yds. south of Upper Nuu trail. Commanding location on point of ridge overlooking shoreline of Kaupo and Kahikinui. Beach pebbles and coral found in pavement. Wall 6' thick on the north and east sides, height above ground at NW 10' — Distance along front of terrace 110', 4' high at south. Area A is part of hill slope below strewn with rocks and pebbles. Area B is a plot of level unpaved ground on which two auhuhu of fish poisoning plant is growing. Area C is paved and divided into several platforms, the rock pile is probably a survey monument." |
