| Comments: | Identified as an ahupuaa on the circa-1880s Hawaiian Government Survey map of Kaupo. Diacretical spelling comes from the legend of Heleipawa in historian Samuel Kamakau’s Tales and Traditions of the People of Old, translated by Mary Kawena Pukui. The diacretical spelling is Pukui’s, as Kamakau’s original article in the newspaper Ke Au Okoa (Oct. 21, 1869) does not contain diacretical marks. |
