Feature: | Heiau, hill |
Comments: | Hill in Puu Maneoneo region. Not shown on any known map. Described by Bishop Museum researcher Thomas Maunupau in his account of a visit to Kaupo in 1922. Mentioned in the field notes of archaeologist Winslow Walker from a survey of Kaupo in 1929. A heiau on the hill is sometimes referred to as Keanawai Heiau. However, Walker recorded the site as “Heiau at Keanawai”. Radiocarbon dating by archaeologist Alex Baer suggests that the site may have been in use as early as the 1300s. |
