(Puʻualaea)
Feature: | Ahupuaa |
Comments: | Identified as an ahupuaa on the circa-1880s Hawaiian Government Survey map of Kaupo under the name "Pualaia". Referred to as "Puualaea" in the legend of Heleipawa by historian Samuel Kamakau, published in the newspaper Ke Au Okoa on Oct. 21, 1869. Diacretical spelling comes from a translation of Kamakau's legend by Mary Kawena Pukui in the book "Tales and Traditions of the People of Old". |
