("He Hoomaikai i ka Poe na Lakou na Kokua", Ka Nupepa Kuokoa, January 16, 1914)
Sol. Hanohano1, please publish these notes in free space of your newspaper’s delicate form.
This past Christmas, a baseball tournament was held here in Kaupo by the baseball clubs of Kaupo and Kipahulu.
The captains of the two teams agreed to two games, with the first beginning at 10:30 for nine innings. Kaupo scored 10 runs and had 3 "goose eggs"2, while Kipahulu scored 16 runs and had 4 "goose eggs". The second game, of five innings, began at 2:30. Kaupo scored 6 runs and had 1 "goose egg"3, while Kipahulu scored 7 runs and had 3 "goose eggs".
Therefore, the youths of the Love-snatching Wind4 took the prize. After the first game was over, the baseball club of Kaupo held a luau for everyone who had come to the baseball field. The people ate poi and beef, and there was enough for two helpings. On behalf of the Kaupo baseball club, through J. W. Kawaakoa, the chairman for the activities of the day, we would like to give our thanks to the Kipahulu baseball club for joining us to play, since they trudged over 7 miles on foot, unconcerned about their lack of horses.
The baseball club also gives its thanks to the parents of all the families in Kaupo for their donations to provide the food.
Below are the donors and the amounts given in support of the feast:
