Feature: | Cove |
Comments: | Cove between Nuu Bay and Waiu Bay. Identified on the circa-1880s Hawaiian Government Survey map of Kaupo. Described in the Hawaiian Ethnological Notes collection of the Bishop Museum: "Nuu is the ahupuaa. Mano is the fishing ground. The lower land is where Kipahulu appears to be at the cliff of Hanakauleia. That is the lower land mark, and Kalokoiki is the ground." Mentioned in an obituary in Ka Nupepa Kuokoa in March 1864: "Aloha ino no kuu moopuna la, o kahi wai huihui o Kalokoiki la." (Alas for my grandchild, of the cold water of Kalokoiki.) Labeled "Old Canoe Harbor" on Hawaiian Government Survey registered map number 1185. |
